Rental Cars Go Green

In an effort to join the “Green Movement” many of the big car rental companies have added eco-friendly choices to their fleet lineups. Hertz Global Holdins Inc alone has spent close to $68 million to add fuel efficient cars to their fleet. By replacing just one thousand of its ordinary cars Hertz will be able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 3000 tons per year. Hertz is not alone in their quest to help the environment, Enterprise and Avis-Budget are also making big changes to offer customers eco-friendly options.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be adding the Saturn VUE Green Line Hybrid vehicles to its rental line-up. They will also be growing their alternative fuel vehicles to include hybrid, flex fuel, and diesel/biodiesel vehicles. The first wave of approximately 160 hybrid Saturn VUE SUVs will be delivered the first part of 2007 to select branch locations.

Hertz

Hertz recently announced that it will now offer 3400 Toyota Prius hybrids at 50 airport locations throughout the United States. Hertz has been offering lower emission vehicles such the Toyota Camry and Ford Fusion since 2006 but the Prius will be the first Hybrid added to the fleet. As an added bonus, Hertz will be donating $1 from every Green Collection car rental to the National Park Foundation to preserve our country’s national parks.

Avis-Budget

Avis-Budget have expanded their “green” fleet over the past year. They now have over 1000 Priuses and 500 Nissan Altima Hybrids in their lineup. Avis-Budget is also offering a guaranteed reservation on any of their Prius and Altima Hybrids.
